gatto
Built for the model you can actually run
An AI assistant that runs local AI models on your PC Local first. No account. No subscription. Free forever.
What gatto does
Your own assistant living in your terminal. It has a memory system and access to basic tools like web search. You can ask gatto to write code, do research, update your Windows drivers, or simply have a chat.
gatto is GPL-3.0, so you can modify it as much as you want. Local AI models sit on your hard drive and run from your own hardware. What you type and the files you open never get sent anywhere. Full privacy by design.
On the first run, gatto downloads an engine (llama.cpp) and helps you pick a model your PC can actually handle. You can add more models and engines later.
A role is a seat: a small file that names a model and a prompt. Useful when coordinating multiple agents, each using a different model for a specific task.
Ask gatto to write a new tool for itself, then drop it into gatto's extensions folder and voilà, gatto has a new tool. Browse the extension repository. Third-party repositories: coming soon.
Small AI models are uneven. gatto will put yours through a longer battery of real tasks and show you where it slips up, measured, not judged. Coming soon.
A note on the first launch: gatto is not code-signed, so Windows shows “Windows protected your PC” the first time you run it. Choose More info → Run anyway. A signing certificate costs money gatto does not have; the warning is about the absence of a receipt, not about the file.
